Au coeur du mouvement. Médicine en quatre dimensions.
Inside Motion. Medicine in the Fourth Dimension.
27.04. - 02.06.2019
For a long time, the processes inside our bodies were as foreign to us as the surface of Mars. Five hundred years ago intrepid anatomists began to change that. But they could not see into the living body. When the x-rays came up in 1895, scientists could see the skeleton inside a moving human. With that, however, they also contaminated the body radioactively.
Today, we can make three-dimensional films of how the organs move in the living body without harming it. This is one of the achievements of a research team at the University of Basel. The exhibition ‘Inside Motion’ tells of their journey into our moving interior. A journey that is far from over.
Transform yourself into a surgeon and plan a complicated procedure in virtual space. Immerse yourself in the world of research and try using augmented reality to simplify medical procedures. Visit the sound island and find out why it is so difficult to grasp the movements inside the body. Discover movies, holograms and time-lapse footage and see what it means to be a researcher.
The exhibition is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation within the Agora-Scheme. It is organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Medical Faculty at University of Basel in cooperation with the Pharmaziemuseum Basel and the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures of the Academy of Art and Design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.
